Many of you know the benefits of fandom, especially one like Farscape has, which gives you friends from all over. I attended Fed Con in Germany this past May. I did the Meet and Greet with Ben which was great fun! We had a good group that had Germans , an Italian (shout out to the best Scaper GIF maker @BetazedLady!) and an American (me). This past weekend one of the women also attended Shore-Leave 43 in Baltimore. We kept staring at each other in the Farscape Duo photo line and finally spoke. It is always wonderful when these moments happen! Christiane sent two great photos and permission to use them. 
Shore-Leave has a charity drive like most cons and the selected guest(s) act as sort of champions for the drive at the con. This year it was Ben and Claudia. The challenge was to beat Amanda Tapping’s total of $3000+ which we did with $4000+. Both actors scrambled to take the offerings.

Well it has been awhile and to be honest didn’t think people were coming here with Twitter etc.!! Then I ran into people who asked about it when they asked if it was my site. So I promise to do better!!
This past weekend was Shore-Leave 43 with Ben and Claudia Black at the top of the marquee ( as they should be!). I have some video snippets which I am editing.
Ben Browder and Claudia Black did two panels getting to the questions right away. Though they joke, each question is given thought and usually a bit of a fresh twist if it an oft asked one. They are always gracious to each other and the one asking the question. My favorite was Claudia asking Ben why he doesn’t age saying she looks like she stepped out of The Locket. That wasn’t true and I will tell you the pictures do not do her justice!! Few look exactly as the did 24 years ago and some of the fans getting photos hadn’t been born then! A few SG1 questions mixed in and they were honest in their answers which is always refreshing.

So this past weekend was SiliCon in San Jose (Silicon Valley). Ben was a guest for SG1 along with Michael Shanks and for Farscape along with Gigi Edgely. The SG1 panel was great fun as the two actors spoke at length about the way the industry is currently in regards to roles and the new way of auditioning. It was interesting and told with humor. Ben compared the sending of the audition tapes to Tinder or Grinder with producers sliding left without knowing much about the actor’s skill set. Michael gave him some ribbing about knowing about the sites. There was lots of honesty and laughter.
Sunday was the Farscape panel with Ben and Gigi Edgely. Classic Ben sitting in the audience when the panel started. The questions were some familiar ones, including their audition stories. Many in the audience had not heard Ben’s “stigmata” audition. Always torn between laughter and horror at how he must have felt !! Ambiguous Farscape future news , Brian and Rockne still pursuing.

Ben was in Chicago for the Stargate Convention this past Saturday. He looked very fit and was excited to be out and about. The crowd was smaller than usual with many new faces and Scapers well represented. The crowd, unlike some in the past has discovered Farscape as there were many good questions and some familiar ones from new fans. I first saw Ben at the first Farscape Con in 2000 so though I “know” the answers to some I always respect those who can give the answers without making it seem rote or that they are bored of answering it. Ben definitely does this well! He was also able to confirm that we will see him in an additional episode of Walker. There was a question about getting to go up with the Thunderbirds and he talked about the Top Gun/Maverick films and having a son who is an USAF pilot. He spoke about the difference between Farscape and SG1 set styles. Adlibbing not encouraged by the latter such as when he had Mitchell say “bullets bounce”. He explained that a warrior like Teal’c and an officer like Mitchell wouldn’t shoot a gun in a confined space like that and he didn’t want the character to look bad. The producers/writers listened but said don’t do that (ad lib).
(Regarding the photo below I was sitting a bit back and the lighting made the guests all look like they had fake tans !)
I took Action for a photo op with Amanda Tapping and Michael Shanks. While in line I saw Ben sitting by the wall waiting for his solo shots. I waved and he came over and I said I had hoped they would have offered a photo op of the 3 SG1 guests but they didn’t. He said well he would take AJ and join them. I was tongue tied but got out ok 🙂 So he did it!
While signing autographs he was his usual talkative self and new fans went away very pleased and full of compliments!

Last night Ben appeared on the CW’s Walker. I like that he is the character not obviously Ben playing a character or worse Crichton as a ____. Some actors are like that so as long as they are playing the character they are most known for in a different situation they are good. When I first watched Farscape and wondered about his other work, I searched it out. I wasn’t disappointed ! I think it makes Ben and actors like him harder to cast because they sold that famous role so well it seems like it must be more them than acting. Here are a few shots from the ep which is available to stream free in the US on CWTV or their app. Not sure about other countries.

London Film and Comic Con happened this past weekend and the guests were happy to be back among people! None more than Ben who relished being among people after a long lock down. The moderator was quite good and kicked off with how did he get cast in Farscape. The audience was filled with new fans of both Farscape and SG1. Ben related the story of his “stigmata” audition for Rockne O’Bannon and Brian Henson. After that (and the laughter died down!) the moderator asked about SG1 which Ben was cast and didn’t have to audition for. There were some good questions including are we going to get more Farscape. Ben said Rockne and Brian working on it but as they want to film in Australia it is stalled. He said he suggested England which was met with applause. When asked about more Stargate he said there was an SG1 continuation script which featured appearance by familiar faces. As usual his answers about Farscape were passion filled which he credited to him being involved from the start. To illustrate that he described how at the start of season 2 he felt that John, who represents us all, was suffering from PTSD (and who wouldn’t be after the events of season 1!), so he started doing and saying things as though Scorpius was there. David Kemper asked him what he was doing and Ben explained. Then the neural clone was revealed. Ben was also asked about Guardians of the Galaxy 3. He looks in perfect shape especially given he is clean shaven to reprise the role! He described the Marvel nda as extending beyond life and breaking it leads to the inner rings of hell all the way to Lucifer 🙂 Then said so even if he was there is no way he could tell us! As usual lots of smiles after the photo ops and signing. I always love watching the Gaters be seduced and nodding when Ben tells them they must watch Farscape 😀 He also re-iterated that Twitter and all are just not for him.

The Birthday Fundraiser is back!! It will start December 1 and run until midnight(PST) December 11!! Scaper Derek is downsizing and has donated some great Farscape items many of which are hard to find — so stay tuned!! Ben will be appearing at the London Film and Comic Con later this month so I will get a couple of things autographed as well.
