A couple of things — first Ben’s accent as the Sovereign Admiral in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2. We  Farscape fans jumped to “PK John”. Ben’s says it was more Olivier .  I will listen more carefully the next time I see it!!

You may have seen mention of Ben’s appearance in Dustin Hoffman’s Merchant of Venice. His wife, Francesca Buller, was in both the London and New York versions. Ben says she started rehearsals the day after they were married. He was still a student but auditioned in London and joined the cast when they transferred to New York.

May the Force be with you today! Especially if going to a screening of Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 !!!

Don’t forget Ben will be appearing at Collectormania Birmingham U.K. June 3 – 4, 2017  —- he does not have a solo talk but is part of the SG1 panel with Michael Shanks. These two are great fun to watch and they take the questions seriously yet are often irreverent! This panel from Perth,W.A. gives you a taste of what to expect!

U.S. and Canadian fans it is time to begin our countdown for Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 !! We have learned a couple of non-spoilery things from our fellow fans abroad. Ben speaks and PK John is heard. A couple of guys on Twitter alluded to his character as “Admiral”. It is a cameo so pay attention! I am excited Ben has an opportunity to be in a film of this magnitude being produced by two major studios. James Gunn’s choice of him and tweets about him will stir interest among fans and Industry types alike as to who this guy is that was given a coveted cameo! At least that is my hope! πŸ˜€ Ben was a fan of writer/director Gunn even before the first film so this was a great opportunity for him personally. Do I wish it was a meatier role? Hell yeah! The Industry is weird and Ben is in a crowded talent age group. Remember as well only about 5% of actors are working at any given time. So cheer in the theater when you see our golden man!

I am updating the photo gallery —- please feel free to help yourself though a link or a credit is courteous πŸ˜‰  I had forgotten about Ben appearing on Bill Maher’s Politically Incorrect in 2000. If you want to watch visit the Clips page.  Several of the CaScapers and I attended no cameras so screen shots from the VHS.

Scaper Patricia posted a promo photo that brought back a flood of memories! The convention center at the Burbank Hilton had windows and we were lining up to go in and could see the vendor table with the new official photos! Squeeing was heard as each group saw them!! It  was 2001 and jaded scifi fans were still disbelieving of a “ship” early in a series no matter what was seen and that the producers/writers/actors said! A couple of months before I had listened to creator Rockne O’Bannon explain at SDCC that he felt it wrong when shows ignored chemistry or were afraid to write an adult relationship (he cited X Files). Then these incredible season 3 promo photos came out! Farscape was good solid drama and had a love story that was organic not just an occasional plot device. This first photo is the one I got signed — Ben signed in Claudia’s hair saying “It is all about the hair” !

I wished Ben a Happy Farscape Anniversary and asked his thoughts. Here is his reply :

I guess that makes us legal to vote? But not legal to drink.

I had a 19 year old yesterday call me John Crichton… She had  just watched the entire series for the first time. Kinda mind blowing.

Two decades is the typical spread for scifi reboots, so maybe more Farscape is on the horizon.

Today is the 18th anniversary of the premiere of Farscape on the SciFi Channel. I have shared my story of how I came to discover the show many times over the years and will do so again today. The show premiered on a Friday night. I didn’t watch it. I had seen the Starlog magazine cover with the “puppets” and not given it much thought. Saturday my Dad called me which was unusual (my Mom usually called and they lived not that far so we saw them regularly). He asked if I had seen the new show on SciFi. I said no and he said you have to watch it! Then said he thought they were rerunning it during the week. This peaked my interest so I checked into it and my then husband set the vcr figuring if my Dad was that excited he was on board as well! That was it and we were hooked! My Dad , a computer hardware engineer who had little use for the internet, asked who the actor was as that boy can act πŸ™‚ After I attended the first convention , one day with my youngest daughter and the next with an X Files friend in August 2000  I decided to make a website for the actor who brought John Crichton to life. I knew little about web design (still don’t!) so I worked on it on days off while my daughters at school and husband at work. Spending most of my life in southern California where one becomes a bit more jaded about “stars”, I was very impressed with the cast at the con—none of the embarrassment seen at the time by actors at some cons. Ben was the only American actor on the show and was gracious and appreciative of the enthusiasm. He still is and though part of me still worries that this will change, but his true love and respect of the story remains in 2017. I have friends I met in the X Files fandom (we met on a text based chat) and some became Farscape fans as well. The friends I have met through Farscape populate my social media and my real life. They have been there for me through tough times, including divorce and loss of both parents, and happy times. It is great to visit other countries and have friends there who share your passions, not just for Farscape but books, travel and more. It is a unique show and a unique fandom. It lacks the divisions many fandoms have. Our crazies I am proud to say are a bit less crazy and well loved! So on this day we all answer John Crichton’s question : Can I get a hell yeah?

HELL YEAH !!!
