Never seen Ben in person?? At least 3 opportunities coming in 2020!! Creation’s Stargate Con in June, London Film and Comic Con in July and GateCon in September.

At Winter Con last weekend Ben mentioned the beard was back for a small role. The era of NDAs prevents us from knowing what it is at this point but as soon as any info is out 🙂 Personally I am still a bit surprised by Ben fans opposed to more Farscape. Ben has expressed more than a little interest in the project which continues to look like it will happen as soon as next year. Would I like to see him in “bigger” projects? Sure. Am I surprised he hasn’t been “discovered? Yes and no. The fangirl in me is outraged 🙂 The me that grew up in soCal with friends and friends with parents in the industry is not so much. George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Tom Cruise. These three are Ben’s age. Likely on many producers dream list as if you sign these guys your project sells. They also have companies that might invest in your smaller film if the project interests them. Does it mean they are best for the project? Not necessarily but they are good actors and bring name recognition. All still popular and thanks to them there are currently some good roles for actors in that age group. Personally I think exposure from a streaning show could only help the “right” people discover what we already know — Ben is a talented guy. That said a more pedantic project like a Stargate incarnation less likely to attract the same industry buzz as a Henson project. Yes we will all watch but will industry people?

Winter Con Recap
Like many of you I was excited for the Farscape 20th Anniversary Reunion con. I knew I was likely to have a great time no matter what. The cast, Ben, Claudia Black, Gigi Edgely, Anthony Simcoe, Lani Tapu, and Kent McCord plus creator Rockne O’Bannon always deliver. My fellow Scapers also never disappoint. It is always wonderful to see the reactions of new fans having their first experience with the cast. We had great questions and the usual thoughtful answers. Story after story of great experiences meeting the actors. I grew up in soCal. You tend to be a bit more jaded and realistic about meeting those you admire on screen.Part of me has been waiting to be disillusioned by this group. I am happy to say that hasn’t happened. The cast is also gracious to each other and it rings true. There is a level of respect that is more “real” than all the casts you hear call themselves a family. Several of us were standing to the side of the signing area as our people arrived. Loud, enthusiastic as they saw the fans wearing Farscape items. As we chatted and admired Claudia Black’s longer hairstyle (which was so silky!) , Ben arrived and came from behind and surprised her. It was obvious they had yet to connect at the con. There was a long hug! She fondled his beard in such a cute way! Then she said he was John in The Locket!! More hugging!! The chemistry that was John and Aeryn was still there!! Many actors do great photo ops — they are up for anything and have great ideas especially with fans they have encountered before and the Farscape cast is no exception.I know a wide variety of fans especially those who I have met through the farscapenow campaign who had their first Ben experience at this con. I have yet to hear any negative feedback aside from why was there no Sunday panel! Each encounter with Ben and the cast since the launch of the farscapenow campaign has convinced me of their respect for the work and their fans. 40+ minutes of the panel are available on youtube.

Don’t forget Winter Con tickets still available — Ben will be part of the Farscape 20th Reunion panel on Saturday and doing photo ops and signing on both days. Many of you can reach New York City for a day con and it is a great group that will be there — Ben, Claudia Black, Gigi Edgley, Anthony Simcoe, Lani Tapu, Brian Henson and Rockne O’Bannon! It promises to be an unforgettable event! So if you have never seen Ben or the others in person you have 11 days to plan 😀
The last couple of years I have started the fundraiser for Ben’s birthday on Veteran’s Day or Armistice Day. This year is the 100th Anniversary of the end of a war that saw the deaths of 116,000 plus Americans among the 15,000,000 – 19,000,000 military deaths. In those days there was little tracking of the soldiers who returned home without physical injuries. These days countries are facing the facts that many need help after they leave the service. Numbers seem to have dropped according to the latest government study from 22 veterans per day killing themselves to 17. This rate varies among western nations that track these statistics. Ben has been attached to a film project called Freeze Frame which deals with the topic for many years as he feels it is an important issue. He is now a military parent himself so it is even closer to his heart. So help celebrate Ben turning 57 with a donation! The site will be open until Ben’s birthday on December 11th!
Remember that Ben will also be doing at least two cons in 2020 as well as Winter Con this month. The Stargate Convention in Chicago June 26 – 28,2020. Gatecon in Vancouver August 27 – 30. He also will likely be at SDCC again in July —- open registration is November 16th at 9 am PST. As I always say don’t miss a chance to see him in person!! Winter Con , like Dragon Con, will give the opportunity to see him interact with his castmates which is always great!!
