WOW!!!! Great catch by alittledizzy !!!
Just a reminder that the birthday fundraiser to benefit IAVA, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, ends Sunday night at midnight. The plight of veterans is a cause Ben feels is important. IAVA works especially to help those contemplating suicide upon their return. It is a top rated charity and well supported by veterans themselves. I know this is a busy time of year and everyone is watching their money. So many causes to choose from. So donate small and think of the young man or woman debating whether to face another day rather than a grande or a venti. Donate. Special thanks to PKGirl for the photo!!
Tomorrow Americans give thanks for what they have in their lives. It is a time of loneliness for many, especially those soldiers who have returned from war and having trouble being home. War rarely ends for soldiers just by stepping foot on American soil. IAVA, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, are there for them to steer them find the right kind of help for their unique situation. So make a donation for Ben’s Birthday — help us help them. DONATE YOUR THANKS
I asked Ben if he would share his thoughts about what he remembered and here they are (with permission):
Angie,My most enduring moments from 911 are ones of compassion and hope. Horrible things happen and we are witness to the great wrongs that people can commit. In the aftermath, there was so much good and caring.I saw the buildings come down, staring down the avenues of New York.I watched the people stream North out of the city, rubble and dust covered, their eyes glazed in shock.I walked through an eery and silent times square the evening of 9/11.But what sticks in my soul was watching strangers and acquaintances caring for their fellows. For every terror there is a balm in beauty.PeaceBen
Special thanks to Dani from Farscape.world who found the post!!!!!!!!!! I think I knew the coffee from Ben’s email to me—-

Claudia Black just posted to the scifi.com bulletin board:
The purpose of this message is two-fold.
Firstly, thank you for a successful and very enjoyable convention tour.
Secondly we would like to send out our best wishes to everyone in New York. We walked into town and lit a candle on the steps of a closed church last night. What else is there to do but try and give blood and pray for everyone.
We are here in town until the planes start running and are being taken care of by a large and caring group of collegues from the Henson Group. So lucky to have members of our work family with us at this time.
As much as I have wondered how Aeryn would be dealing with this the very human me has been a little teary, a lot scared and very grateful to be alive.
Ben has plying me with chocolate and has firmly established himself as a real life hero.
Chick with gun and black tee signing out for now somewhere in nyc…..
This a flashback post to September 2001. There was a Farscape Convention held in New York City that year the week after the Burbank one. On that fateful morning of September 11th, Ben and his family as well as Claudia Black were at their hotel in the city, all planning travel to the United Kingdom. Claudia posted later in the week on the Scifi Channel Farscape board (under her handle chickwithagun) that she was fine and Ben had brought her coffee and chocolate. This site posted a message from Ben that they were alright as well. I misplaced discs containing many of my old posts and at times like these am very annoyed at myself!! I also didn’t foresee still running this in 2016! Below is a classic photo from that con courtesy of CaScaper Sandy who attended.
Ben was unable to appear at Wonder Con yesterday where he was scheduled to participate in a panel promoting Bad Kids of Crestview Academy, as he is starting a new film project. I did get a chance to speak to executive producer/writer Bazz Wernick who said the official premiere date is being decided. The film will differ from the first and according to both Wernick and director Ben, should appeal to a bit broader audience. When you are a fan of an actor sometimes their choices disappoint you other times surprise you. Ben’s enthusiasm for his directing debut makes me very interested in this film even if it wouldn’t normally be something I would seek out. Do tell your younger , modern horror genre friends to keep an eye out for it! If you only want to see John Crichton fine but as I have lamented before don’t bash projects because they aren’t Farscape because nothing will be Farscape!!
The recent X Files revival has made me ponder whether I would want to see more Farscape. Part of me doesn’t want the uniqueness messed with and part of me screams Hell Yea! I loved John and John/Aeryn. I am uninterested in a film about the child now a teen lost or in trouble. A film with a more settled John and Aeryn reuniting with their friends to search for the kid would be acceptable to me 😉 I do look forward to seeing Ben pursue other roles with wider exposure so everyone will get a chance to appreciate his talent!
Ben in 2016 :
As the year ends it is time to look back on 2015 and look ahead to 2016. In December 2014 Ben told of an exciting project he was working on. He was full of boyish enthusiasm over the tech involved! But he could not divulge any info. Fast forward ahead to April in Perth,Australia where he tells us that it is a big video game. Some disappointment for those of us who don’t game! In Adelaide I was sitting next to a young man who said he guessed it was Call of Duty Black Ops III. When I returned home I began an internet search and found a leaked clip with a character who looked like Ben! I was quite excited! Ben also presented at the Saturn Awards where his date was his daughter, who though still at university is breaking into the business like her parents, though on the production side. Next up I get an email from Ben saying he won’t be at the Chicago con because he is filming a movie and the schedule is tight. He told me where he was so I of course tried to find out what was filming there ( damn non-disclosure agreements!) with some luck but ….then the project is announced and a photo of Ben that startled and dismayed some fans. The film is Outlaws and Angels and will be premiering next month at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival. Ben also was featured in Bad Kids of Crestview Academy which is also his first foray into directing and he has been doing the post production editing of this project which will be released in 2016 as well. He loved directing and is hoping to do more in the future.
Final total for fundraiser was $2305 !!!
I let Ben know and he was glad so much was raised !
Happy Birthday Ben!!!
So far $2185 has been donated to support Alex’s Lemonade Stand which helps fund pediatric cancer. The page will remain open until midnight tonight. I want to think all who have donated —- this is a hard time of year to find extra money! Special thanks to Spritelady for the auction banner and the CaScapers , Sprite, and Paula K for donating auction items. The picture below is from May 2015 (thanks musicalgal!)
2016 promises to be a good year for those of us who are fans —- the Bad Kids sequel , Bad Kids of Crestview Academy, featuring and directed by Ben as well as Outlaws and Angels, which will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.
The birthday fundraiser is in the final stretch —- 4 days left! The goal has been met and exceeded but that doesn’t mean don’t donate! Americans don’t forget it is tax deductible 😉 So skip a latte or other treat this week and celebrate Ben’s upcoming birthday AND help raise funds for pediatric cancer research at the same time! Donate!
Just want to update on the birthday fundraiser —- we have reached $965 !!!!! There are still more auctions to come including a special item from Spritelady that all you Printheth fans are going to want 😉 Just sayin’ you might want to save your Pumpkin Spice Latte money !! All of you who have made friends and tell of how Farscape changed your life take the opportunity to join with fellow fans and donate to Alex’s Lemonade Stand to help fight pediatric cancers and celebrate Ben’s upcoming birthday, after all he brought Crichton to life and helped make Farscape what it is !
Personally those of us that have been fortunate enough to see Ben at a con or those who have met him in other settings know he is more than jut another Hollywood pretty face but in the last 15 years that pretty face hasn’t changed that much !
