Only 3 weeks left to donate! Many thanks to those who have including our auction winners!! The auction totals aren’t reflected in the total yet—so the “real” total is $884. Remember a donation to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation makes a great gift for a family member, bestie or a Ben fan !!  The final auction item is a Gillian Anderson signed special photo. Remember ALL proceeds to the fundraiser and shipping ANYWHERE is FREE! She was so sweet when Action John photo- opped with her in London!

The first of the auctions to benefit Ben’s Birthday Fundraiser starts today!  When in London I had Ben sign a picture of him in Dr. Who for this and he included a line! The auction starts at $50 which is the Breast Cancer Research Foundation’s figure for 1 hour of research time and will end next Wednesday. Future auctions will include Farscape , Amanda Tapping, and Gillian Anderson items.

I hope everyone has got a chance to see A Town Called Mercy, the episode of Dr. Who featuring Ben. I am not big on reviews preferring to leave them to those who have a better way with words. The Dr. Who of my childhood was rather scary, seen on a black and white TV on UHF channels that were dodgy at best. My Dad and I would watch them on random Saturday afternoons. I rediscovered the Doctor with Christopher Eccleston, the ninth doctor. I loved the edginess he brought as the franchise found a new generation of fans. I love that none of the actors try to copy the one before them — instead they make the character their own including Matt Smith as Ben described in London. The writing seems to get better with each season, layered stories that make me nostalgic for Farscape and the early seasons of The X – Files. All that said I wanted Ben to have a juicy role on this much anticipated appearance. I am satisified. Tony Whithouse crafted all the roles well , making them more than 2D props for the Doctor and the Ponds. Ben fans got to see wry humor, serious and a death scene than brought emotion to the surface not eye-rolls. Whovians will lecture but I would love to see a future series with a female doctor(Claudia Black or Amanda Tapping perhaps?) and a male companion (Ben).

Show your excitement by purchasing the episode on Amazon or iTunes !

I am fixing/compressing the video and hopefully will have it up today sometime.

On the topic of what people like at cons I will say when Ben does photo-ops/autographs I do want him to be the most popular! He was up there at this con and I don’t think it is just because he doesn’t do alot of events in the UK. Several people I spoke to bought the photo-op ticket after the autograph because Ben was so nice. We win!

I  am back home after a great vacation in London.  I prefer hearing the actor’s talk and photo op/autographs second.  Ben is great on stage yet I understand the financial draw of the second. I am surprised at the fans who rate the autograph time highest. I guess I am cynical—even Ben who is very gracious can’t remember every person! Many people I spoke to assumed San Diego Comic Con means photo ops/autographs with all the guests. It is more marketing products than fan interaction. There are signings etc  but nothing like at the smaller comic cons. The talk at the LFCC gave us new info such as Ben attended London Central School of Speech and Drama with Chris Eccleston, the 9th Doctor (and my modern favorite).

Here are Action John’s new  photos:

The Throne is one of the 5 actual thrones they use on the show—will scan the picture when I get home. Ben looks great and still has the moustache!

Greetings from London! There is still no confirmation on whether Ben will be giving a talk at London Film and Comic Con this weekend. If he does I will live tweet it. Follow @Action_John on Twitter — I will post any news there. In the meantime here is a picture I took in 2006 outside London’s Central School of Speech and Drama where Ben studied after graduating from Furman University.

Getting ready for London Film and Comic con! My Ben photo tickets have arrived!! Action John will be photo- opping with Gillian Anderson and  Janet Fielding (she was Tegan Jovanaka companion to the fourth and fifth doctors). I will probably choose another when I am there as they have added some more guests. I am going to attempt to tweet any talks Ben participates in — I will post more details next Friday.

Be sure and check out the picture of the day on Tumblr and the gallery on Pinterest.

I have been working alot lately but do want to let everyone know I am going to the London Film and Comic Con. Apparently no filming allowed so I will attempt to tweet Ben’s talk(s?).  I know there will be some Scapers I know there but hope to meet more!  I am going to try and do a daily photo on Tumblr (follow benbrowder.net ) I find Tumblr a seductive world of creativity that can turn me into a couch potato! I started a Pinterest board(?) for Ben here . I love Farscape video and before youtube, there was Dallascaper’s site so check it out if you haven’t already.
