When the Dragon Con 2019 schedule was announced I noticed right away that Ben was not scheduled for the big Saturday panel with everyone. He was scheduled to be on a Stargate panel later in the afternoon. I emailed him and questioned whether it was a mistake. He was surprised. I had contacted the track director and it wasn’t an error. As of the Friday of Dragon Con he still wasn’t scheduled. I suggested he crash it. I am sure the idea had already occurred to him 😉 I have redone all the Saturday panels in order — I plead exhaustion as to the initial omission !!
It struck me as I was working on the Dragon Con videos that the Monday Farscape panel was 17 years to the day from when Ben emailed me, BritAngie and Elle telling us to get as many fans to chat as possible that night. I replied back asking if it was bad news (a Scaper in the industry who had gone to Australia with me had been told things weren’t looking good). He answered back quickly — yes very.
So here is part of Sunday’s panel — I had equipment issues so @vinegardog had several files on her phone and I got the final one in too soon :p Working on the rest of them but Monday’s came out better though no Ben. Special thanks to Jolene for filming that day as she had a better view!
So much to process about Dragon Con! Ben appeared on three Farscape panels and one Stargate panel. He has a new fascination with signing interpreters and how they do some words like “balls” and “2 buttcracks”. I have seen him on many panels since 2000 and Friday was unlike any I had seen to be honest. A lot of raw emotion. He had not seen Anthony Simcoe in close to 15 years and it was quite obvious that both men were overwhelmed when discussing the past on stage. It was fantastic to see Ben, Lani Tapu, Rebecca Riggs, Anthony Simcoe, and Gigi Edgley all together again. Brian Henson and Rockne O’Bannon made it clear that more Farscape likely. Friday’s moderator was not very good— not allowing everyone to answer, I think the tears from Ben and Anthony threw him off but … the guy who moderated Saturday and Sunday was worse. Luckily Ben sort of took over Sunday with help from Rockne and Brian. Scaper Paul Rabogliatti got some great photos which I am sharing if you haven’t seen them!! Ben, Anthony Simcoe, and Rebecca Riggs had a lot of fun — Ben couldn’t get over Rebecca’s comment that casting agents usually saw her as a nun 😀 Check out Saturday’s panel below! Sunday’s to follow!
The folks at Rum River Productions sent along this bit with Ben talking Hoax for your enjoyment! I seriously recommend this as your end of summer Chiller Thriller. Great fun! Not my favorite genre but this captures the spirit of the Saturday afternoon features ( for those of you born before vcr,dvds,and cable!). Solid performances by all and beautifully shot. Check your favorite digital source or VOD!!
#TBT 2002 Last day of filming for Farscape. When this was released as an extra on the season 4 dvds it drove those of us already fighting to save the show. Ben stoic and Claudia Black fighting tears.
Last night a couple of my fellow CaScapers attended the Hoax signing in Burbank at the Dark Delicacies book shop and sent along a few photos! Many thanks to Camille and Tina !! If you want to chill this weekend (teens and up as there is some sex/nudity — none with Ben) rent/buy Hoax — reminded me of a good Saturday afternoon Chiller Thriller!
Hey don’t forget to rent or buy Hoax today! Great scenery 😉 Beautifully shot. A couple of twists but mostly it delivers what is promised — a B movie horror story! Good fun chilling as summer winds down! Ben plays against type and is good as a slimeball producer.
After my #ScaperSaturday post I thought I would dig into the archives I have and share some more photos taken by fellow CaScaper Bob from the 2001 Farscape Con. Most of us had never seen Tammy McIntosh except as Jool. There was silence as this beautiful, Cheryl Tiegs like person came out. She proceeded to charm us all with the genuine interest the Australian guests always show at these events.
Ben’s movie Hoax is being released Tuesday August 20th here in the US!! Check your digital outlets and VOD !!! The peeps at Hoax have sent along a sneak peak for us knowing we have been waiting for a glimpse of Ben!!

So 2020 will have at least 2 major opportunities to see Ben in person. He will be appearing at the Stargate Con in Chicago in June and Gatecon in August ! Details to come!
