Just a bit of an update about the return of the Birthday Fundraiser. Start saving some of your pumpkin spice money to donate to the Stop Soldier Suicide organization. This is a small charity but a national one. It came to my attention when I saw that MajorScaper Amy donated to it for a friend’s birthday. I looked into it and ran it by Ben who said perfect! The page will launch on November 11th and run until midnight December 10th. Thanks to new Ben fan Heidi for letting me use her photo op as I wanted a recent , semi-serious photo!
Other news about the last two unreleased films Ben did. Rum River Productions has completed all the post work on Hoax and will be shopping it for distribution. Follow them on Facebook and Twitter to learn about screenings at festivals or other events, as well as release information. You may have seen mention of Being getting a trailer. I was waiting for the official go ahead to share that but for now follow the Facebook page for updates as well as on Twitter.

This has remained my favorite episode of the series. Crichton has to confront the reality of how humans would treat his new companions after thinking the Uncharted Territories “uncivilized” compared to Earth. The way the Ancients let him construct the reality was so well done it made it an anguished truth rather than preachy in my opinion.

A bit of a reminder regarding sharing of photos one finds online. We all have seen and downloaded photos that we find that maybe shouldn’t be shared except with those closest to us. Ben’s kids are adults and one is in the industry so it is no longer much of an issue. However Claudia Black’s sons are still minors and she prefers their faces not be posted. I try to respect the requests whether they are real life friends or celebrities I follow. So if you see these kind of photos send a discreet message to the webmaster asking if they are aware. Also be wary of ghost Facebook pages of celebrities 🙂

As we await the release of Ben’s completed projects and any news of other future plans I want to talk about the actor’s world a bit. It is foreign to most of us who can’t imagine having to prep for “interviews” continually. While only a small number of actors are actually working at any given time ( about 10%), the way shows and films are produced has helped create more jobs than before as has the rise of intricate video games. Success is measured in different ways but an actor who supports his or herself by acting alone is considered successful by their peers. Ben says 15/26 of his classmates still working in the industry in one form or another which is a high number. He also had this to say :
“More than half of my classmates from Central School of Speech and Drama are still performing. They were and are creatively intimidating.”
Many fans think of it different because to us success is our favorites on screen in quality projects all the time! Ben’s class at drama school included Clive Owen and Chris Eccleston, both who work regularly in the UK averaging 2 to 3 projects a year. It should be noted Ben auditioned and got a role in London near graduation and the offer withdrawn when they realized he was American. His accent was fine for the audition but I imagine a bit of chagrin they were fooled and disbelief led them to withdraw said offer because the character was British! The road not taken. Of course we may never have gotten John Crichton which was a surprisingly meaty role for genre TV. We never know what work a favorite actor has turned down, is up for or actively pursuing until it is announced by them or a producer. Of course I want to see more Ben on screen! One wish list item would be an It Takes a Thief type of project with Claudia Black in the Grace Kelly role. Another would be a cameo in the Miss Fisher film working with director Tony Tilse again and with Essie Davis. I also hope when more Farscape arrives we will get an episode directed by Ben.

American fans who have a Roku player — the Roku Channel (free) has Grace Under Fire available. Season 1 episode 3 features a young Ben Browder. I hadn’t watched the episode for years so watched it yesterday. Really made me #smitten all over again 🙂 It was a comedy with heart as well as laughs and Ben acquitted him self well as a frat boy who tossed out literary quotes as he played pool with Grace leaving her smitten and weak kneed. So well worth a watch as we await more new Ben! Marvel has announced they will be proceeding with the James Gunn script for Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 which I continue to hope will provide us with another glimpse or two of the Sovereign Admiral.
